Hapton with Park's Councillor Jamie McGowan has directly questioned Oliver Ryan MP on grooming gangs in Tameside where Mr Ryan served as a councillor between 2014 - 2023.
It follows a news interview with a current Tameside Councillor who, in 2022, attempted to address the issue of grooming gangs during a council meeting, only to be shut down and later visited by the police for apparently raising it.
It goes further as it is alleged that Oliver Ryan, who is now the MP for Burnley, was previously the Member responsible for Children's Services in the authority.

Despite having seen the query, as evidenced by his engagement on other posts, there has been no response from Oliver Ryan on this critical matter.
Councillor McGowan states,
"This whole topic's an absolute stain on our country. It brings anger, but it also brings massive sympathy for all the children systematically abused by these gangs. It's disgusting and should have never been allowed to happen."
He further added,
"Given the grave nature of these accusations, it's only fair to ask Oliver Ryan MP whether he was in charge of children's services during that period, what he knew and how he addressed these concerns. His silence is notable, and the public deserves transparency."
Councillor McGowan has urged Oliver Ryan MP to respond to these queries to clarify his role and actions during his tenure at Tameside Council. The community, especially those directly affected by these heinous crimes, seeks answers and accountability.
