Padiham’s Roads Are a Disgrace – Fix Them Now

The way our roads are repaired is pathetic. The system is broken and residents deserve better. You shouldn’t need councillors chasing the most basic repairs.
Residents in Padiham are fed up with the shocking state of our roads. Dangerous potholes and crumbling surfaces have become the norm, and the current repair system is simply not working.
Cllr Jamie McGowan, working in close partnership with the former County Cllr Alan Hosker, has been forced to step in repeatedly because the proactive maintenance of our streets has completely collapsed.
This isn’t just about a few cracks in the tarmac. It is a clear failure by Lancashire County Council to deliver the basic services residents are already paying for through record-high taxes.
Under the new county councillor, Padiham has been pushed to the back of the queue. Roads such as the Arbories, West Street, East Street and Slade Lane have been repeatedly deprioritised while other areas are fast-tracked.
“Why should people pay so much when the basics aren’t fixed?” said Jamie.
“The system is reactive, not proactive. We shouldn’t have to chase every single repair. Alan and I are reporting what we can and pushing as hard as possible, but Padiham needs a system that actually works for our town.”
Jamie is fighting to ensure that resurfacing these neglected streets becomes a funded reality - not just another line on a distant council “to-do” list.
